IPv4: The End is in Sight (sort of)

Today IANA allocated two batches of IPv4 addresses leaving only five /8 blocks remaining. In turn, this will trigger IANA’s final distribution of IPv4 address one /8 block to each RIR. Once this final distribution is set, estimates are that the pool of IPv4 addresses will be exhausted by the years end.

A full transition to IPv6 will take some time, most likely years (and years) but as today’s news highlights it is a necessary migration to maintain the Internets staggering rate of growth.
